Middelschulte, Wilhelm

Middelschulte, Wilhelm, eminent German organist and teacher; b. Werne, near Dortmund, April 3, 1863; d. there, May 4, 1943. He studied at the Inst, für Kirchenmusik in Berlin with Löschhorn (piano), Haupt (organ), and Commer and Schröder (composition). After serving as organist at the Church of St. Luke in Berlin (1888–91), he settled in Chicago. He was organist at the Cathedral of the Holy Name (1891–95); subsequently was organist at Milwaukee’s St. James’s Church (1899–1919) and also a prof, of organ at the Wise. Cons, of Music there. He was greatly distinguished for his interpretations of Bach. In 1935 he became instructor of theory and organ at the Detroit Foundation Music School. In 1939 he returned to Germany
