Potter, Chris , jazz tenor and soprano saxophonist; b. Chicago, Ill., Jan. 1, 1971. He was raised in Columbia, S.C. He began playing alto saxophone and won a young talent award from the IAJE when he was 11; he performed at their Kansas City conference with other winners that year including Charnett Moffett and Harry Connick Jr. By 19, he was based in N.Y. and attracting attention for his fine work touring and recording with Red Rodney. His steadily growing reputation as a virtuosic and impassioned contemporary player has led to an increasing demand for his appearances as a sideman as well as some work as a leader.
