Tubb,Carrie (actually, Caroline Elizabeth)

Tubb, Carrie (actually, Caroline Elizabeth), English soprano; b. London, May 17, 1876; d. there, Sept. 20,1976. She studied at the Guildhall School of Music in London. She began her career singing in a vocal quartet during her student days; after winning notice as an oratorio singer, she appeared at Covent Garden and at His Majesty’s Theatre in London (1910); however, she soon abandoned opera and pursued a career as a concert artist until her retirement in 1930; in the latter year, she became a prof, at the Guildhall School of Music, where she taught for almost 30 years. She excelled both in Mozart arias and in concert excerpts from Wagner and Verdi.
