Walter, David Edgar

Walter, David Edgar, American bass-baritone and composer; b. Boston, Feb. 2,1953. He studied voice with John Powell at Rutgers Univ. (1970-75), Oren Brown, Lois Bove, and Shirley Meier at Trenton (N.J.) State Coll. (M.A., 1978), and Janet Wheeler at the New England Cons, of Music in Boston. He also studied with Diamond, Luening, and Persichetti at the Juilliard School in N.Y. (B.M. in composition, 1975), Edward Richter and Calvin Hampton (1976-78), and Del Tredici, Mekeel, and John Thow at Boston Univ. (1978-81). Walter subsequently was active as a singer in Boston and N.Y. churches. As a composer, he writes in an accessible style. Among his works are dramatic pieces, sacred scores, chamber music, piano pieces, organ music, and choruses.
