Wich Günther
Wich, Günther, German conductor; b. Bamberg, May 23, 1928. He studied flute with Gustav Scheck in Freiburg im Breisgau (1948-52). In 1952 he made his conducting debut there, serving as chief conductor of its Opera until 1959. He then was conductor of the Graz Opera (1959-61), and later Generalmusikdirektor in Hannover (1961-65) and at the Deutsche Oper am Rhein in Düsseldorf (1965-80). In 1982 he joined the faculty of the Würzburg Hochschule für Musik.
