hypertext mark-up language
hypertext mark-up language (HTML) A strictly defined method of presenting textual material intended for use in the World Wide Web. In addition to the normal features of a mark-up language allowing control of page layout and character format, HTML makes provision for the inclusion of active links; these hold a URL, and can act as pointers to other HTML documents located either on the same server or elsewhere in the World Wide Web.
