Ford Foundation Predoctoral Fellowships for Minorities (Doctorate/Fellowship)

Purpose: To increase the presence of underrepresented minorities in the nation’s college and university faculties; to enhance diversity on campuses; and to address the persisting effects of past discrimination. Focus: Teaching. Qualif.: Applicants must be members of at least one of the six minority groups whose underrepresentation in the professoriate has been severe and long-standing. Criteria: Fellowships will be given to those who meet the qualifications.

Gates Cambridge Scholarships (Doctorate, Postgraduate/Scholarship)

Purpose: To award scholarships on the basis of a person’s intellectual ability, leadership capacity and desire to use their knowledge to contribute to society throughout the world by providing service to their communities and applying their talents and knowledge to improve the lives of others. Focus: General studies. Qualif.: Applicants must apply to pursue one of the following full-time residential courses of study: Research leading to the PhD degree; One-year post-graduate courses (e.g. MPhil, LLM, Diploma, MBA etc.); 2-year MSc degree; Second Bachelor degree as an Affiliated Student; MBBChir Clinical Studies; must be admitted to Cambridge through the University’s normal academic procedures; must have a first class or high second class honors degree, or its equivalent, from a recognized university; must be well-prepared for the Cambridge course for which they are applying and must meet the academic criteria for admission specified by the university. Criteria: Awards will be given to those who meet the scholarship’s criteria.

Hertz Foundation’s Graduate Fellowships (Doctorate/Fellowship)

Purpose: To build America’s capacity for innovation by nurturing remarkable applied scientists and engineers who show the most promise to change the world. Focus: Science; Engineering. Qualif.: Applicants must be admitted in a graduate school and demonstrate satisfactory progress toward receipt of the Ph.D degree. Criteria: Awards will be given to those who meet the criteria.

Howard Hughes Medical Institute Predoctoral Fellowships (Graduate/Fellowship)

Purpose: To provide financial support for students who will pursue an MS, a Ph.D or an SC.D degree in the biological

sciences. Focus: Biological Sciences. Qualif.: Applicants must have completed less than one year of graduate study toward an M.S., a Ph.D., or an Sc.D. degree in the biological sciences. Students who hold or are pursuing medical or dental degrees (M.D., D.O., D.V.M., D.D.S.) may also be eligible to apply for fellowship support for study toward a Ph.D. or an Sc.D.
