Peggy Dixon Two-Year Scholarships (Undergraduate/Scholarship)

Purpose: To support students from a two-year college tran-sitioning into a physics bachelor's degree program. Focus: Physics. Qualif.: Applicants must have completed at least one semester or quarter of the introductory physics sequence; and currently registered in the appropriate subsequent physics courses. Criteria: Applicants are selected based on high scholarship performance both in physics and overall studies; exhibition of the potential and intention for continued scholastic development in physics; active participation in SPS programs.

Funds Avail.: $2000. To Apply: Application forms are available online. Applicants must submit completed application form; certified and official transcript (submitted directly by the applicant's college/university); letters from at least two full-time members of the faculty. Deadline: February 15.

Remarks: The scholarship is established in memory of Dr. Peggy A. Dixon, SPS and Sigma Pi Sigma Historian from 19922003.

Herbert Levy Memorial Endowment Fund Scholarships (Undergraduate/Scholarship)

Purpose: To provide financial assistance to promising physics students. Focus: Physics. Qualif.: Applicants must be full-time undergraduate students applying in their junior year (except for two-year college applicants who should apply after completing one semester of physics); and must be SPS members. Criteria: Applicants are selected based on high scholarship performance both in physics and overall studies; exhibition of the potential and intention for continued scholastic development in physics; and active participation in SPS programs.

Funds Avail.: $2,000. To Apply: Application forms are available online. Applicants must submit completed application form; certified and official transcript (submitted directly by the applicant's college/university); letters from at least two full-time members of the faculty. Deadline: February 15.

Remarks: Scholarships establish by Margaret Sussman Levy in memory of her husband Dr. Herbert Levy.

Sigma Pi Sigma Undergraduate Research Awards (Undergraduate/Grant)

Purpose: To support local chapter activities that would contribute to the strengthening of the SPS program. Focus: Physics. Qualif.: Applicants must be active chapter members of SPS. Criteria: Proposals will be judged by a panel of physicists.

Funds Avail.: $2000. To Apply: Applicants must submit a proposal containing a budget and must be signed by the advisor and officers of the chapter. Deadline: November 15.

SPS Future Teacher Scholarships (Undergraduate/Scholarship)

Purpose: To award SPS members participating in a teacher education program and pursuing a career in physics education. Focus: Physics. Qualif.: Applicants must be undergraduate students applying in their junior year majoring in physics; and must be SPS members. Criteria: Applicants are selected based on high scholarship performance both in physics and overall studies; exhibition of the potential and intention for continued scholastic development in physics; and active participation in SPS programs.

Funds Avail.: $2000. To Apply: Application forms are available online. Applicants must submit completed application form; certified and official transcript (submitted directly by the applicant's college/university); letters from at least two full-time members of the faculty; and a statement from an SPS advisor that certifies the applicant's participation in a teacher education program. Deadline: February 15.

SPS Leadership Scholarships (Undergraduate/Scholarship)

Purpose: To encourage the students to pursue their career in study of physics. Focus: Physics. Qualif.: Applicants must be full-time undergraduate students applying in their junior year (except for two-year college applicants who should apply after completing one semester of physics); and must be SPS members. Criteria: Applicants are selected based on high scholarship performance both in physics and overall studies; exhibition of the potential and intention for continued scholastic development in physics; and active participation in SPS programs.

Funds Avail.: $5000 and $2000. To Apply: Application forms are available online. Applicants must submit completed application form; certified and official transcript (submitted directly by the applicant's college/university); letters from at least two full-time members of the faculty. Deadline: February 15.
