Anschluss
Anschluss (1938) Enforced unification of Austria and Germany by Adolf Hitler. Prohibited by treaty at the end of World War I (1914–18), expressly to limit the strength of Germany, Anschluss was nevertheless favoured by many Germans and Austrians. It was dissolved by the Allies in 1945.
