Crompton, Richmal
Crompton, Richmal (1890–1969) English writer. She created one of the most popular characters in children's fiction, William, the scruffy, prankish schoolboy. The stories were first collected as Just William (1922), and more than 30 William novels followed. She also wrote adult fiction.
