Pléiade, La Group of seven 16th-century French poets. They were Pierre de Ronsard, the leader of the group, Joachim du Bellay (1522–60), Jean-Antoine de Baïf (1532–89), Rémy Belleau (1528–77), Estienne Jodelle (1532–73), Pontus de Tyard (1522–1605), and Jean Dorat (1508–88). Among the earliest writers of the French Renaissance, they advocated French as a literary language instead of Latin and Greek.
