EIDE
EIDE Abbrev. for Enhanced Integrated Drive Electronics. A technology that uses ATA-2 (or more recently ATA-3 or ATA-4) to give enhanced performance. ATA-2, developed by Western Digital, provides for faster data rates, 32-bit transfers, and DMA operation. Power-saving modes and removable devices are also supported as options. The standard ATA-2 was followed by ATA-3 and ATA-4 (‘Ultra DMA’), providing data transfer rates up to 33 MB/s.
