Fiacre, St
Fiacre, St (d. c.670), Irish-born hermit living in France; he is said to have been a skilled horticulturist, but to have been of a misogynistic nature. His emblem is a spade. His feast day is 30 August (1 September in France and Ireland).
Fiacre is the name of a small four-wheeled carriage for public hire, named after the Hôtel de St Fiacre in Paris, where such vehicles were first hired out.
