Acaray River
Acaray River
Acaray River, affluent stream in eastern Paraguay that after a 108-mile course, joins the Paraná River 6 miles upstream of the mouth of the Iguaçú River. In 1968 a hydroelectric plant was built, with the assistance of Italian engineers, near the settlement of Hernandarias. The 45,000-kilowatt output feeds the capital city of Asunción, and secondary lines supply border towns in Brazil and northeastern Argentina. Expansion in 1976 enlarged production to 240,000 kilowatts.
