Aizawl
Aizawl (īzoul´) or Aijal (ījäl´), city (1991 pop. 155,240), capital of the state of Mizoram, NE India. Situated on a ridge in the Mizo Hills that is 3,500 ft (1,067 m) high, Aizawl is an important trade center for the surrounding area. Indigenous handicrafts are produced. In the 1970s, Aizawl was the site of an attack on the government treasury by members of the Mizo National Front.
