Deschutes
Deschutes (dāshōōts´), river, c.240 mi (390 km) long, rising in several lakes in the Cascade Range, W central Oregon, and flowing NE to the Columbia River. The U.S. Bureau of Reclamation has developed the stream and its main tributary, the Crooked River, for hydroelectric power and irrigation (c.100,000 acres/40,470 hectares).
