Sextus Propertius (sĕk´stəs prōpûr´shəs), c.50 BC–c.16 BC, Roman elegiac poet, b. Umbria. He was a member of the circle of Maecenas. A master of the Latin elegy, he wrote with vigor, passion, and sincerity.
