Rawḍa khānī
Rawḍa khānī or rawz̳ah-khvānī. Ritual recitation in Iran by Shiʿites of the sufferings and martyrdoms of Imāms, and especially of al-Ḥusain. These are particularly prominent on 10 Muḥarram, when public processions take place with many emulating the sufferings of the Imāms with self-laceration and beatings. See also TAʿZIYA.
