Förtsch discontinuity An irregular seismic discontinuity within the upper continental crust, at 8–11 km depth, usually interpreted as a change from upper granitic rocks to deeper dioritic composition. See also CONRAD DISCONTINUITY; and MOHOROVIČIĆ DISCONTINUITY.
