Lepidium (family Cruciferae) A genus of herbs that have alternate leaves without stipules. The inflorescence is usually a raceme and flowers have 4 sepals, 4 petals, and 6 stamens. The genus is cosmopolitan and found in all arid regions. There are about 150 species, which include L. sativum, the common garden cress, which is grown for food.
