Rhizopus (order Mucorales) A genus of fungi which are saprotrophic and found on soil, fruit, etc. R. nigricans (R. stolonifer) forms ‘stolons’, analogous to the stolons of higher plants, which grow over the surface of the substratum, attached to it by branching rhizoids.
