Stenotritidae (order Hymenoptera, suborder Apocrita) Family of large to very large, hairy, ground-nesting bees: they are entirely restricted to Australia. Formerly regarded as a subfamily of the Colletidae, stenotritids are unique among bees in having the ocelli situated low on the front of the head, nearer to the antennal sockets than to the posterior margin of the vertex. The nest of only one species, Stenotritus pubescens, has been described. The cells were unlined and the provisions consisted entirely of nectar and Eucalyptus pollen.
