Trichiuridae
Trichiuridae (cutlassfish, hairtail; subclass Actinopterygii, order Perciformes) A small family of marine fish that have a very elongate, slender body, the tail tapering to a point or provided with a tiny, forked tail fin. The large mouth has strong, fang-like teeth. The dorsal fin is extremely long, but the other fins are poorly developed. Most species inhabit the upper few hundred metres of the ocean. There are about 17 species distributed worldwide in tropical and temperate seas.
