Trochodendraceae (order Trochodendrales) A family of evergreen forest trees containing a single species, Trochodendron aralioides, of Korea and Japan. The tree has leaves that are alternate, apparently whorled, diamond-shaped, and glossy, with long stalks. The tiny green flowers have no perianth, and are borne in inflorescences at the ends of branches. The fruits are follicles. The family has the ‘primitive’ feature of having no vessels. Birdlime is made from the bark.
