valley-side bench
valley-side bench(rock bench) A terrace-like land-form that stands on the flank of a valley, but lacks a veneer of alluvium. It may have originated as a true river terrace from which the alluvium has been stripped by subsequent erosion or it may result from the exposure of a nearly level stratum of resistant rock.
