Cornelius P. Rhoads
1898-1959
American physician who helped found the Memorial Sloan-Kettering Cancer Research Institute. Rhoads's research into the causes and cures for cancer in the 1930s and 1940s helped to set the stage for many of the advances of recent years. However, Rhoads also generated a great deal of controversy in 1931 when he injected cancer cells into Puerto Rican patients to research the causes of cancer.
