Johann Rebmann
Johann Rebmann
1820-1876
German missionary who explored the interior of East Africa and, in 1848, was the first European to see Mount Kilimanjaro. Rebmann's explorations provided geographic information that proved important to future English expeditions led by Sir Richard Burton, David Livingstone, and others. Some of his expeditions in conjunction with fellow German, Johann Krapf, were especially valuable to subsequent explorers.
