Maximos Planudes
Maximos Planudes
1260?-1310?
Byzantine monk who reconstructed a number of the maps described in Ptolemy's Geographia. The maps in the original manuscript were incomplete, since some had only been explained by Ptolemy without accompanying illustrations. Planudes undertook the drawing of the additional maps, using Ptolemy's text as a guide, for the Byzantine emperor Andronicus III.
