Origen (Oregenes Adamantius)
Origen (Oregenes Adamantius)
185?-254
Alexandrian philosopher and Christian theologian who was one of the earliest intellectual fathers of the Greek Church. Origen sought to amalgamate a comprehensive rendering of Hellenic science in a Christian interpretation. He defined Christian cosmology from Plato's theistic cosmological origins, with God creating an infinite series of finite and comprehensive worlds, mutually alternative, with the visible world being stages toward an eternal cosmic process. He was well acquainted with Greek astronomical theory, which he integrated with commentary on Genesis.
