German mathematician who contributed to the field of geometric function theory. Teichmuller studied under Helmut Hasse at Göttingen, where he completed a thesis on linear operators on Hilbert spaces, then undertook further studies under Ludwig Bieberbach in Berlin. In a six-year period Teichmuller researched and produced some 34 papers and introduced quasiconformal mappings and differential geometric methods into complex analysis.
