Tosio Kato
Tosio Kato
1917-
Japanese-American mathematician whose work on the functional analysis of differential equations proved to be of great importance. Kato also wrote a significant work on perturbation theory, describing how small perturbations in the initial conditions of a mathematical problem can affect the ultimate solution—important in many areas of analysis. Finally, Kato contributed to the understanding of the application of functional analysis to the mathematics of differential equations.
