American diplomat. Born Ruby Ruth Lewis, Dec 20, 1906; died Oct 18, 1996, in New York, NY; Columbia University, MA in sociology, 1932; New York University, doctorate in education; m. George Farkas (founder of Alexander's department stores); children: Robin Farkas.
With husband, contributed $300,000 to Richard Nixon's reelection campaign; was then appointed ambassador to Luxemburg (1973), causing an uproar, despite such appointments being commonplace; served until 1976; established the Role Foundation (1967).
