Fiedler, Bobbi (1937–)
American politician. Born Roberta Frances Horowitz in Santa Monica, California, April 22, 1937; attended Santa Monica City College, 1955–59.
Began public career as the organizer of a citizens' group called BUSTOP, which opposed busing as a means of desegregating Los Angeles schools; served on Los Angeles School Board (1977–80); won 1st race for US House of Representatives (1980); serving 3 consecutive terms, was a member of the Budget Committee where she advocated fiscal conservatism; voted along party lines on most issues, but parted with Republican colleagues in her support of feminist issues, including the Equal Rights Amendment; made an unsuccessful bid for a Republican Senate seat (1986).
