English-born actress. Born Brenda Taylor, Jan 14, 1909, in London, England; died Sept 11, 1996, in New York, NY; dau. of E.J. Taylor and Mary Forbes (1880–1974, actress); sister of Ralph Forbes (actor who m. Ruth Chatterton); m. Frederic Voight (died); m. Merrill Shepard.
Made stage debut with the Old Vic (1928); made Broadway debut in The Barretts of Wimpole Street (1931), which ran for 4 years; other plays in NY include Lucrece, Romeo and Juliet, Candida, Pride and Prejudice, Save Me the Waltz, Heartbreak House, Ring Round the Moon, The Reluctant Debutante, The Loves of Cass McGuire, The Constant Wife and My Fair Lady; made film debut (1940) and appeared on tv, notably in Cocteau's La voix humaine.
