Tyrone, Northern Ireland; no relation to Ian Paisley; dau. of Robert and Mary Paisley; m. Sir Jack Hermon (Royal Ulster Constabulary chief constable); children: 2 sons.

Was a law lecturer, Queen's University of Belfast (1978–88); representing UUP, elected to House of Commons at Westminster (2001, 2005) for North Down.
