New Zealand tribal leader. Born Hinematioro on East Coast of New Zealand; died in 1823; dau. of Tane-toko-rangi and his wife, Ngunguru-te-rangi; m. Te Hoatiki; children: 4.
Was leader among East Coast peoples at time Captain James Cook made his 1st trip to New Zealand (1769); ruled a large district with many subjects.
