American columnist. Name variations: Nancy Brown. Born Annie Louise Brown, Dec 11, 1869, in Perry, Maine; died Oct 7, 1948, in Detroit, MI; dau. of Levi Prescott Brown (farmer) and Ann Robinson (Lincoln) Brown; m. James Edward Leslie (editor), Sept 19, 1904 (died 1917).
Hired in women's department of Detroit News (1918); began writing advice column, "Experience" (1919), which soon grew into daily feature, but did not reveal identity, even to fellow newspaper staffers, until 1940; answered most letters herself and won respect and widespread readership for common-sense philosophy.
