Loveridge, Emily Lemoine (1860–1941)
American nurse. Born Emily Lemoine Loveridge, Aug 28, 1860, in Hammondsport, NY; died April 26, 1941, in Portland, OR; dau. of Marie Lemoine (Wolfolk) Loveridge and Reverend Daniel Loveridge; children: raised nephew and niece, and a girl who was orphaned during the 1919 influenza epidemic.
After a brief career teaching, graduated from Bellevue Hospital Training School of Nursing in NYC (1889); moved to Portland, OR, and founded the School of Nursing at Good Samaritan Hospital (1890), the 1st nurse training school in American Northwest, where she served as nursing superintendent until 1905 and superintendent; helped create what is now the Oregon State Board of Nursing (1910); retired from Good Samaritan (1930).
