Swiss pacifist and travel writer. Name variations: Annelise Ruegg or Rueegg. Born 1879 in Switzerland; died 1934; married Alexander Alekhine (1892–1946, world chess champion), Mar 15, 1921 (he left her soon after).
Traveled widely and worked in many countries, including Russia, working as a maid, waitress and nurse; was a pacifist and an activist in the women's movement; wrote the autobiographical Erlebnisse einer Serviertochter (Experiences of a Waitress, 1914) and Im Kriege durch die Welt (Through the World in Wartime, 1918).
