American stage, radio, and tv actress and acting teacher. Born Mar 5, 1893, in Cambridge, MA; died Sept 11, 1980, in Croton-on-Hudson, NY.
Made Broadway debut in Catskill Dutch (1924), followed by Little Clay Cart, Exiles, The Critic, Grand Street Follies, The Dybbuk, The Apothocary, The Seagull, Jeannie, Misalliance, Quadrille, Mary Stuart, My Fair Lady and Bell Book and Candle; had 2 one-woman shows, Styles in Acting and Our Stage and Stars. Received Tony Award for her teaching of classic acting at the American Theatre Wing (1959).
