Mother of Hannah Senesh. Name variations: Catherine, Kató, Catalin Szenes; Katalin Senesh. Born Katalin Salzberger in 1899; m. Béla (r.n. Schlesinger) Szenes (writer); children: Hannah Senesh (1921–1944); Gyuri (George, b. 1920).
After fleeing a Nazi death march and a successful search for the grave of her daughter (1945), narrowly made it through the closing borders of the new occupier of Hungary: the Russians; made it to Palestine by way of Romania.
