Colonial tavernkeeper. Lived in Boston, MA.
Considered the 1st woman tavernkeeper in America, ran tavern in Boston (early 1670s); was arrested and convicted for several crimes, including selling liquor without license, receiving stolen goods, profaning the Sabbath, and "frequent secret and unreasonable entertainment in her house to Lewd Lascivious and Notorious persons of both sexes, giving them opportunity to commit Carnale Wickedness"; fined, whipped, and sent to prison; made significant financial contribution to city of Boston which apparently appeased authorities.
