The Banger Sisters
The Banger Sisters ★★ 2002 (R)
Fast forward “Almost Famous” thirty years and you'll find Kate Hudson has turned into her reallife mother, Hawn, who plays Suzette, a middleaged former '60s/'70s “bandaid” turned, well, not turned at all, still living the wild, freespirit life. Her partner in rock n' roll groupiedom, Vinnie (Sarandon), however, has grown up and uptight; now she's suburban mom Lavinia living in the 'burbs. When Suzette loses her job, she drifts back into Vinnie's life and helps her get back to her sleazy, but more honest, roots. Sanitizedforyourprotection version of groupie life rings false throughout. Characters are essentially modeled on groupie legends the Plaster Casters. Material isn't worthy of these Alisters and nostalgia appeal runs thin. Amurri is Sarandon's reallife daughter. 97m/C VHS, DVD . US Goldie Hawn, Susan Sarandon, Geoffrey Rush, Erika Christensen, Robin Thomas, Eva Amurri, Matthew Carey; D: Bob Dolman; W: Bob Dolman; C: Karl Walter Lindenlaub; M: Trevor Rabin.
