Beauty for the Asking
Beauty for the Asking ★ 1939
It sounds like a workable Lucille Ball vehicle—a beautician develops a bestselling skin cream—and even the title sounds like something you'd like to love Lucy in. But somehow the numerous plot implausibilities managed to get by the story's five writers, and the idea of a jilted woman making millions while being financed by her ex's wife just doesn't fly (perhaps it was an idea ahead of its time). Diehard Lucy fans may find this interesting. 68m/B VHS . Lucille Ball, Patric Knowles, Donald Woods, Frieda Inescort, Frances Mercer; D: Glenn Tryon.
