Bright Future
Bright Future ★★★ Akarui mirai 2003
Mamoru and Yuji are best friends, coworkers, and roommates in an existentially cool and cold modern world. Dreamlike plot takes Mamoru to jail for a crime he didn't commit, but won't deny. He seems fine there, drifting in and out of reality, almost living vicariously through his pet jellyfish he entrusted with Yuji before hitting the slammer. Japanese director Kiyoshi Kurosawa's new-wave vision of art and horror are fascinating, yet alienating at once. Fans of bizarro Asian cinema will flip. Originally titled “Jellyfish Alert,” a title somehow more accurately describing this movie than any review could. 92m/C DVD . Tadanobu Asano, Tatsuya Fuji, Joe Odagiri, Marumi Shiraishi; D: Kiyoshi Kurosawa; W: Kiyoshi Kurosawa; C: Takahide Shibanushi; M: Pacific 231.
