The Coca-Cola Kid
The Coca-Cola Kid ★★★½ 1984 (R)
Smug U.S. sales exec Becker (Roberts) treks to Australia to improve regional sales and becomes embroiled in sexual and professional shenanigans. He gets involved with freespirited secretary Terri (sexy Scacchi) and discovers that a soft drink locally brewed by eccenric McDowall (Kerr) is his determined competition. Roberts is strong in the difficult lead role, and Scacchi is compelling in an awkwardly constructed part. Ambitious satire is somewhat scattershot, with more storylines than it needs. Still, filmmaker Makavejev is usually capable of juggling the entire enterprise. 94m/C VHS, DVD . AU Eric Roberts, Greta Scacchi, Bill Kerr, Chris Haywood, Kris McQuade, Max Gilles; D: Dusan Makavejev; W: Frank Moorhouse; C: Dean Semler; M: William Motzing.
