Fantasia/2000
Fantasia/2000 ★★½ 2000 (G)
Lightweight continuation of Disney's 1940 film hangs on to Mickey Mouse's popular “The Sorcerer's Apprentice” and adds seven new animated sequences of varying charm with celebrity introductions. Probably the most fun sequence is that of the yo-yo-ing flamingo set to Saint-Saens' “Carnvial of the Animals.” Music is conducted by James Levine and performed by the Chicago Symphony Orchestra. Originally released in the IMAX format. ♫Symphony No. 5 (Ludwig Van Beethoven); Pines of Rome (Ottorino Respighi); Rhapsody in Blue (George Gershwin); Piano Concerto No. 2, Allegro, Opus 102 (Dmitri Shostakovich); Carnvial of the Animals (Camille Saint-Saens); The Sorcerer's Apprentice (Paul Dukas); Pomp and Circumstance (Edward Elgar); Firebird Suite (Igor Stravinsky). 75m/C VHS, DVD. D: Hendel Butoy, Eric Goldberg, James Nelson Algar, Gaetan Brizzi, Paul Brizzi, Pixote Hunt, Francis Glebas.
