Rebecca Yoder (Watts) is part of a relgious community that has settled in Montana in 1886, hoping to escape the prejudice that plagued them in Ohio. But the local cattle ranchers are angry over a land dispute and kill Rebecca's husband, hoping to force her to sell her farm. Then, a wounded stanger staggers onto her property, whom Rebecca nurses back to health. Of course, Johnny Gault (Daly) is not only worldly but dangerous and Rebecca may be forced to choose between her new man and the religious community that disapproves.
