The Positively True Adventures of the Alleged Texas Cheerleader Murdering Mom ★★★½ 1993 (R)

Satirical melodrama about Texas housewife Wanda Holloway (Hunter), accused of hiring a hit-man to murder the mother of her daughter's chief cheerleading rival. She figures the girl will be so distraught that her own daughter can easily replace her. Ruthless and hilarious, this fact-based cable movie goes way over the top in satirizing suburban lifestyle excess and media overkill. Hunter, complete with whiney Texas twang, is perfect in her role as self-absorbed Wanda and Bridges is great as her loopy ex-brother-in-law and partner in planned homicide. A riot compared to the usual dramatic movies served up by the networks. 99m/C VHS, DVD . Andy Richter, Jack Kehler, Holly Hunter, Beau Bridges, Swoosie Kurtz, Gregg Henry, Matt Frewer, Frankie Ingrassia, Elizabeth Ruscio, Megan Berwick; D: Michael Ritchie; W: Jane Anderson; M: Lucy Simon.
