Stalag 17
Stalag 17 ★★★★ 1953
A group of American G.I.s in a German POW camp during WWII suspects the opportunistic Sefton (Holden) of being the spy in their midst. One of the very best American movies of the 1950s, adapted from the play by Donald Bevan and Edmund Trzcinski. Wilder, so good at comedy, proved himself equally adept at drama, and brought a top-drawer performance out of Holden. Features superb photography from Ernest Laszlo, and a wonderful score. 120m/B VHS, DVD . William Holden, Don Taylor, Peter Graves, Otto Preminger, Harvey Lembeck, Robert Strauss, Sig Rumann, Richard Erdman, Neville Brand, Gil Stratton, Robinson Stone, Robert Shawley, Jay Lawrence; D: Billy Wilder; W: Billy Wilder, Edwin Blum; C: Ernest Laszlo; M: Franz Waxman. Oscars '53: Actor (Holden).
